New “We Live in
Paradise” CD
from Brad and Kathy Fitch
Brad
and Kathy Fitch are pleased to announce the release of their new album, “We
Live in Paradise.” The album includes 13 new songs written by the Brad and
Kathy and two songs written by close friends of theirs.
“In planning this album, we wanted primarily to express our appreciation for
nature’s beauty,” Brad said. “Kathy and I had written several such songs
during the past couple of years, along with a couple of western and love
songs that we enjoyed performing. We had also collected tunes written by my
brother Doug and our friend Connie Kousman, so we put them all together and
came up with what our producer, Bob Buford calls ‘a second generation John
Denver album.’ By this, Bob means that subject matter and sonic quality of
the album reminds him of classic JD. What a compliment!” Buford owns and
operates Summertown Recording Studios in Fort Collins.
"This music is fresh and genuine” Buford said. “The combination of Kathy's
lyrics and Brad's music creates some memorable musical vignettes of the
western lifestyle."
“On this CD you will hear folk, bluegrass and western music,” Kathy said.
“We are proud that this is our third album together where we have used no
synthesized or sampled sounds. We had some great musicians join us in the
studio. Fiddler Dan Mitchell and mandolin/guitar player Willie McDonald from
the Bluegrass Patriots, upright bassist Amy Andersen from the T Band, and
mandolin player Susan Dailey from the McDailey Trio joined in the recording
as well as drummer Dan Downs. Dan and Brad played together in the band Fitch
and Chips and Black Canyon Express during the 1970s and 1980s. We also
brought current world champion cowboy yodeler Vic Andersen into the studio
to yodel and whistle on a song that was inspired by his life as a Montana
cowboy. Mark Pack, the harmonica player who often performs with us and our
producer Bob Buford (banjo and dobro) completed our band.”
"Though
it had been 23 years since I was in the studio with my friend Brad, we still
clicked after all these years,” Downs said. “Everyone will enjoy this CD. I
had a blast recording it, and can't wait to record again. Bob and his studio
are top of the line and this CD is a reflection of his commitment to
excellence."
“Kathy and I have been performing some of these songs in our shows for quite
a while, and many people had asked us when we would put them on an album,”
Brad said. “‘We Live in Paradise,’ ‘Trail Ridge,’ ‘Mighty Ponderosa’ and
‘Knockin’ on my Heart’ will be familiar to folks who attend our campfire
programs. We have been performing ‘Another Seven Dawns,’ ‘Love’s in the
Land’ and ‘Montana out of his Bones’ at the various cowboy poetry and
western music festivals we participate in. ‘Cowboys and Old Folks’ is a
Black Canyon Express song Dan Downs and I wrote together in the 1970s. Kathy
rewrote part of it and we decided that the updated version fit well on this
album. And we have included a couple of our songs that have been seldom
heard up to this point.”
This is the eighth album Brad has recorded and the third for Kathy. “Of the
recording projects I have been involved with, this was by far the most
enjoyable,” Brad said. “This is the third album we have done at Summertown
Studios. Bob Buford works with state-of-the-art equipment and showed a lot
of concern that we got what we wanted from his studio. His enthusiasm for
the project comes through in the clear, organic sound he has produced. I am
especially proud of the songwriting and the performances on this album. I
consider it to be the best work I’ve done.”
